J&K: Prepaid & Postpaid 2G Mobile Internet Partial
After five months, 2G mobile internet services on all prepaid and postpaid phones in entire Jammu and Kashmir – all its 20 districts - were restored from Friday midnight.

However, only 301 websites can be accessed and social media apps will be banned for the time being, due to which WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter will not be accessible.

2G internet on mobile phones will be restored only till January 31, after which it will be reviewed. Earlier, 2G postpaid mobile internet services had been restored in all 10 districts of Jammu and in two districts - Kupwara and Bandipora - of Kashmir.

After the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019, landline phone, internet and SMS services had been suspended in the entire state.

According to the website Top-10 VPN, in the year 2019, internet was suspended for 4,196 hours in various parts of India, due to which the country suffered losses of more than Rs 9,300 crore.

In Jammu and Kashmir alone, between January 1 and December 31, 2019, internet was shut for 3,692 hours, which led to losses of more than Rs 7,600 crore.

In 2019, India was on the third spot, after Myanmar and Chad, for shutting the internet for the most number of hours.
