All 4 Nirbhaya Convicts To Be Hanged On March 3: Delhi Court

All four men convicted of rape and murder of a young medical student, who came to be known as 'Nirbhaya', in Delhi in December 2012, will be hanged on March 3 at 6 am in Tihar jail, Delhi's Patiala House Court said on Monday.

Additional Sessions Judge Dharmendra Rana, who issued the death warrants, pronounced the order on a plea moved by Tihar Jail authorities for fresh death warrants on the basis that no legal remedy is left for any of the death-row convicts.

The four death row convicts — Mukesh Singh, Vinay Sharma, Akshay Singh and Pawan Gupta — were scheduled for execution on February 1 by the Trial Court but the order was stayed as the convicts had not exhausted their legal remedies.

Asha Devi, Mother of Nirbhaya says: “I am not very happy as this is the third time that death warrant has been issued. We have struggled so much, so I am satisfied that death warrant has been issued finally. I hope they (convicts) will be executed on 3rd March.”
