Day 34: Anti-CAA Protest At Shaheen Bagh
Protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) are underway across the country. Friday marks the 34th day of protests against the CAA and NRC in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh, where people have been protesting continuously. Protesters there are not ready to budge under any circumstances, including the cold weather and rainfall.
Delhi Police appealed to women protesters of Shaheen Bagh on Thursday to shift their protest somewhere else and said that they will be given full security. The police also said that traffic is being obstructed and people are being inconvenienced because of their protest.
Meanwhile, people held a protest against the CAA and NRC at Delhi’s Turkman Gate on Thursday evening. Women in large numbers were present at this protest. Protests against the CAA and NRC are also being organised in Delhi’s Jamia University, where many students have gone on a hunger strike. Salman Khurshid, Congress leader and former External Affairs Minister, reached Jamia on Thursday and extended his support to students there.
