Jharkhand: Over 300 Girl Students Fall Sick Due To Food Poisoning
Over 300 girls studying in the Kasturba Gandhi Girls’ School in Jharkhand’s Chaibasa fell ill due to food poisoning, after consuming contaminated food in the school hostel.
The condition of several students who have taken ill continues to be critical. They have been admitted to Chaibasa’s 100-bed Sadar Hospital, where they are being treated.
According to the School Warden, the condition of students began deteriorating soon after eating food, after which the school management informed the Sadar Hospital and a team of doctors reached the school. The doctors sent students whose condition was serious from the school to the hospital in an ambulance. The Food Inspector has collected food samples and it will be known only once the test report comes in whether the cause of the students’ illness was contaminated food or something else. Meanwhile, doctors say that students’ Board examinations are also going on, due to which their routine of consuming food and beverages keeps changing constantly and that could also have led to food poisoning. For the time being, students are being administered medicines and a team of doctors has been deployed so that the students don’t face any kind of problems. This is not the first case of students falling ill after consuming spurious food. Several such cases have come to light earlier too, but school management do not learn their lessons and the brunt of that is borne by students.
