Nationwide Protests Against CAA, Day 47 At Shaheen
Unabating protests and strikes against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) are underway in various cities across the country.

Nationwide protests against the CAA are ongoing on the death anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on Thursday. Students from 60 student wings will form a human chain and organise a ‘satyagraha’ at Rajghat.

Meanwhile, protests by women are underway at Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh and Thursday is the 47th day of protests there. People in large numbers reached Shaheen Bagh on Wednesday and participated in protests and strikes there.

Protests and strikes against the CAA, NRC and NPR are being organised - on the lines of Shaheen Bagh - in cities across the country, including Delhi, Mumbai and Lucknow. Protests by women against the CAA and NRC are underway in Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) Lucknow and Moradabad. Some Congress leaders also participated in the protest in Moradabad on Wednesday.

Protests against the CAA, NRC and NPR were also held in Maharashtra’s Washim on Wednesday.

Violence has flared up yet again during protests against the CAA, with two people dying in a firing in West Bengal’s Murshidabad on Wednesday and clashes breaking out between two groups in Bihar’s Sitamarhi and Maharashtra’s Yavatmal.

Amid this, the UP Special Task Force arrested Dr Kafeel Khan from Mumbai on Wednesday on charges of giving an inflammatory speech against the CAA during a protest at the Aligarh Muslim University.

Meanwhile, a Saket court sent JNU research scholar Sharjeel Imam - facing charges of sedition and other serious allegations - on five-day police remand on Wednesday.
