Poll Process Set In Motion For Student Body Elections In Allahabad University
After protests by students demanding a student union, the process of nomination for the student council elections has begun on Wednesday.
The decision to hold elections to the student council was taken by Allahabad DM and SSP in a meeting with the vice-secretary, after protests by students in Allahabad University on Tuesday.
For the past two days, students of Allahabad University had been protesting in the University campus demanding a students’ union to be set up. On Tuesday evening, the situation worsened so much that the possibility of stone-pelting between students and the police arose on the campus. In the clash between students and the police, which lasted for about three hours, more than 50 vehicles were damaged and 16 students were challaned. The district police have arrested 30 students.
