GoFlashback - Remembering One Of The Finest Victories In Test Cricket By Team India.

India's incredible victory over Australia in the second Test of the home series (2001) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata is considered to be the greatest game ever played in the history of the five-day format of cricket. India won the match by 171 runs after being forced to follow-on, the third time this has happened since Test cricket began in 1877.

Before this Test, the Australian team, rated as the best in the world at that time, had won 16 Tests in a row, a Test cricket record

After winning the toss, Australia posted a competitive total of 445. Glenn McGrath led their bowling attack and dismissed India for 171. Australia enforced a follow-on on the home side. India bounced back and declared at a mammoth 657 for 7 and handed Australia a target of 384. Eventually, Waugh and Co fell short by 171 runs and India squared the series at 1-1.

The second Test is best remembered for VVS Laxman's 280, his 376-run stand with Rahul Dravid for the 5th wicket and Harbhajan Singh's hat-trick and overall 13 wickets.
