The film ‘Panipat’, which released on December 6, opened to a lukewarm response, while ‘Pati, Patni Aur Woh’ fared well at the box office.

According to the website Box Office India, the opening weekend of ‘Panipat’, which is based on historical characters, remained tepid.

The film earned Rs 4 crore on the first day, Rs 6 crore on the second day and Rs 7 crore 50 lakh on the third day. This means that ‘Panipat’ earned Rs 17 crore 50 lakh in the initial three days.

Starring Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon in lead roles, the total cost of making this film was Rs 100 crore. The film depicts the events of the historic battle in Panipat between the loyal forces of Ahmad Shah Abdali, founder of the Durrani Empire, and the Maratha army.

Compared to the opening weekend collections of films based on historical characters which released this year, the collection of this film is very less.

This means that on the first three days, the film’s total collection was Rs 33 crore 50 lakh. The Mudassar Aziz-directed ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’ is a remake of the 1978 film of the same name directed by Baldev Raj Chopra.
