Assam Floods: 1 Dead, Nearly 3 Lakh Affected As Br
One person died and about 3 lakh people have been affected as the rising water level of the Brahmaputra river led to the flooding of 321 villages across 11 districts of Assam. Most devastation took place in Goalpara alone where over 2 lakh people are facing the floods.

According to the State Disaster Management Authority, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Hojai, Darang, Barpeta, Nalbari, Gopalpada, West Karbi Anglong, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts have been affected by floods. Around 272,000 people have been affected and 2,678 hectares of crops have been destroyed due to floods.


Things have worsened in Nalbari and Nagaon as well. The power supply has been cut to transformers submerged in floods in many areas to save people from accidents.

57 relief centres and ration distribution centres have been set up for the flood victims. So far 172 quintals of rice, lentils, salt and 804 liters of mustard oil have been distributed among the flood victims. In five districts, 17000 people have taken shelter in relief camps.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has instructed the officers to follow the protocols of COVID-19 during the relief operation. Physical distancing, wearing masks and washing hands at relief centres are necessary to prevent the spread of infection to the flood victims.
