Delhi Elections: Roadshows On The Last Day Of Campaigning
Thursday is the last day of campaigning for the Delhi assembly elections and all campaigning will come to a halt at 6 p.m. All parties have fielded their prominent leaders and deployed all their strength on the final day of campaigning.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has been out of power in Delhi for the last 20 years, has pooled in all its resources for this election. On the last day of campaigning, Home Minister Amit Shah will conduct three roadshows for the BJP and BJP President J P Nadda will hold two roadshows.
Apart from its main leaders, the BJP is also fielding well-known personalities in the election fray. While wrestler ‘The Great Khali’ will campaign for the BJP in Delhi’s Kalkaji, Malviya Nagar, Mehrauli and Model Town, badminton player Saina Nehwal, who has recently joined BJP, will conduct a roadshow in Delhi on Thursday. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi will hold a roadshow along with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister (CM) Bhupesh Baghel today. Also, several prominent Congress leaders, including Punjab CM Amarinder Singh, Rajasthan deputy CM Sachin Pilot and Congress General Secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia, will be seen campaigning on Thursday. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal will campaign in his New Delhi constituency and will also participate in many roadshows today. Politicians have levelled all sorts of allegations against each other during election campaigning. The Election Commission even barred some leaders from campaigning for some days because of the use of undignified language. Meanwhile, after banning BJP MP Parvesh Verma from election campaigning for 24 hours on Wednesday, the Election Commission has now sent a notice to BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra for giving an inflammatory speech on a TV show and asked for a reply by 5 p.m. today. Polling will be held in Delhi on February 8, and the Election Commission and Delhi Police are fully gearing up for it. Counting of votes will take place on February 11 and it will become clear the same day if Arvind Kejriwal will return to power or there will be a change of political dispensation.
