Bangladesh Lift ICC U19 World Cup Trophy
Bangladesh has won the ICC Under-19 World Cup by defeating India by three wickets in the final match played at Potchefstroom’s Senwes Park on Sunday.
Bangladesh won the toss and invited India to bat first. India had a poor start and lost its first wicket at the score of just nine runs. Later, the entire team was bowled out in 47.2 overs at the score of 177 runs.
Only Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma batted well for India, with Jaiswal making the most (88) runs. Due to rainfall, Bangladesh was given a target of scoring 170 runs in 46 overs on the basis of the Duckworth Lewis Rule. Scoring 170 runs in 42.1 overs at the loss of seven wickets, Bangladesh won the match by three wickets, thereby winning the ICC Under-19 World Cup for the first time. Bangladesh captain Akbar Ali was chosen Man of the Match and India’s opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal was declared Man of the Series. Meanwhile, after winning the match, Bangladeshi players misbehaved with Indian players in the cricket ground. This is the third time that India has lost the final match of the ICC Under-19 World Cup. Earlier, Pakistan had defeated India in 2006 and West Indies beat Team India in the finals in 2016.
